A significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s agricultural and technological development was marked on 18 June 2026 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Colombo, and Sky Tech UAV Flying Academy.

This landmark partnership aims to establish Sri Lanka’s first Diploma in Drone Technology in Agriculture, creating new opportunities for students and professionals to acquire specialized knowledge and practical skills in drone applications for modern agriculture and precision farming.

Sky Tech UAV Flying Academy has established itself as one of Sri Lanka’s leading professional drone training institutions, supported by a highly qualified team of aviation professionals with extensive experience in the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Civil Aviation sector.

The proposed Diploma in Drone Technology in Agriculture has been designed to equip participants with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical competencies in modern UAV technologies and their applications in precision agriculture. The curriculum will cover:

By developing highly skilled professionals in drone technology and smart agriculture, this pioneering initiative will contribute to the digital transformation of Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, improving productivity, enhancing resource efficiency, and supporting data-driven agricultural decision-making.

This collaboration between the University of Colombo and Sky Tech UAV Flying Academy represents a transformative step towards agricultural modernization and sustainable technology-driven development in Sri Lanka.
