The Workshop on Drone Technology in Agriculture was jointly organised by the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Colombo, and SkyTech UAV Flying Academy on 7 September 2026.
The programme featured live drone demonstrations, field displays, and insightful presentations delivered by experts from the University of Colombo and SkyTech UAV Flying Academy, showcasing the growing role of drone technology in modern agriculture.
This workshop marked an important introductory milestone towards the proposed Diploma in Agricultural Drone Technology, aimed at developing professionally competent drone pilots equipped with the practical skills and technical knowledge required to support Sri Lanka’s evolving agricultural sector.

University of Colombo and Sky Tech UAV Flying Academy Join Hands to Advance Smart Agriculture
A significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s agricultural and technological development was marked on 18 June 2026 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Colombo, and Sky Tech UAV Flying Academy.
This landmark partnership aims to establish Sri Lanka’s first Diploma in Drone Technology in Agriculture, creating new opportunities for students and professionals to acquire specialized knowledge and practical skills in drone applications for modern agriculture and precision farming.

On December 9, 2024, a thrilling and educational Certificate Course in Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Pilot was successfully conducted for schoolchildren aged 11 to 16 years.
